Piracy--No Not Johnny Depp

I have just spent my 3rd night in Afghanistan, and I have to tell you that this place is no Walkertion, Indiana at night. I mean, there is nothing to do, no gas stations to hang out at, no Dairy Queen to go to for ice/Coke that you can mix with your rum and ride around and look for girls. There are a few restaurants, but otherwise no entertainment at all, though I guess a mortar may go flying overhead every now and then.

Which leads me to the video store. Maqsoda bought Alpha Dogs the other night. In a strange testament to the world of piracy, the copy we bought started as a movie in English. But the opening credits and notices were in Russian. So somewhere along the line they dubbed it into Russian, and put in English subtitles. Then apparently someone decided to reinsert the original English soundtrack. But they left in the subtitles. Of course, the sound track didn't match with actors lips.

But the real highlight was watching the English subtitles to the English dialogue. It was as if I had put in the Russian subtitles, as the subtitles rarely had anything to do with the dialogue. Here is a rough example:
Dialogue: 'Put down the damn gun'
Subtitle: 'Would you like strawberry jelly on your toast?"

Actually, the movie may not have been bad. Hard to tell. Though they cast Sharon Stone as a mom. Sorry, not going to work. Sharon Stone should only be in movies where underwear is not worn.
