My Afghan Posse

Work in Afghanistan with any international organization, and you are going to have different levels of security—some people move around the city with armored SUVs pushing their way through traffic, and some move around in old Corollas trying to be inconspicuous. But no matter your style when moving around, everyone is greeted at the office or at home by the ubiquitous Afghan security guard. They are everywhere—the more annoying organizations build little sheds in the middle of the sidewalk for their guards, and make everyone walk around. Nice touch.

These are some of our guards. (They work shifts). They are nice guys, and really appreciate it if you take the time to say hello—and they were thrilled to have this picture taken. I am not sure what they are guarding us from—places just don’t get attacked. It seems mostly like a cya to have these guys out there, so that if a meteor ever lands in our living room we can say we did everything possible to protect folks. It’s a lot like putting Curt Skinner in right field in Little League—nothing is ever going to get hit out there, but it seems to balance the field somehow.

Menawhile, my girl Maxie Maqsoda and me, P. Jonny, are thinking about taking these guys clubbing with us. They will be our bodyguards/posse. That right. We bad!!!

we "roll deep"
as in, we go places with a large amount of people...
