Pomegranate

I never really did pomegranate at home, but Afghanistan may be the pomegranate capital of the world. When we were driving back to town form a road trip the other day, we stopped to buy some of the tasty fruit at one of the scores of stands along the roadside.

Of course, all purchases in Afghanistan include immense negotiation. In this case, the vendor was informed that, if we were robbed, the vendor would have to report to the father of our escort—a local police chief. Apparently that is trump. We paid about $20 for over 60 pounds of pomegranate—deal!!!
It is also really nice to interact with normal Afghans--they are friendly, curious, and sometimes a little confused about some crazy American dropping in to buy pomegranate along the roadside.
