Marco Polo

The History of Afghanistan is truly amazing. We got to go to Balkh today, and the people there did not have the same experience as when, “In 1220 Genghis Khan sacked Balkh, butchered its inhabitants and leveled all the buildings capable of defense — treatment to which it was again subjected in the 14th century by Timur. Notwithstanding this, however, Marco Polo could still describe it as "a noble city and a great.” Wikpedia

The highlight of our visit was seeing Masjid Sabz (the "Green Mosque") which was truly beautiful. I didn’t even know it was here—we just discovered it driving around. Probably the same way Marco Polo discovered the place.
