Don't Look

One of the worst things about the traffic in Kabul is that it exposes you to the people who go window to window as you wait in your car, begging for money. Old guys, amputees, women and children. They tap tap tap on the window. You try to look straight away. Or maybe fiddle with your phone. Or just stare at the seat in front of you. Anything but make eye contact. It is just too hard to look. There is too much poverty, too much suffering. I dread it each day, but there is no way to avoid them.
