Springtime in Afghanistan

We were able to get out to the Salang Pass, on Friday. It's around 3,300 meters, and it's too late in the night for me to do a foot conversion*. Suffice it to say it is high.  Drove up, walked around, chatted up some of the folks, took some pictures--just enjoyed the day out. Cut a deal with a guy in the valley to open up a little B&B offering hikes along the river. Sweet.

Here's a sample. You can enlarge these by clicking on them, and some of them might be worth it. I hope I have been able to capture some of the beauty of the place.

*Earlier versions of this story had this word as 'conversation', which set off a Google stampede of people searching 'foot conversation'.  Foot conversion means a the calculation from meters to feet--which seems in retrospect not to be much clearer. I apologize for the inconvenience. Yes, I am dumb

What the hell is a foot conversation? And what is the appropriate time of day to do one?

Nice pics by the way.
