Perfect. Just about the time you think things can't get worse, some goofy-ass birder (yes, I know, that's redundant) finds the thought-it-was-extinct Reed Warbler in Afghanistan.
The story apparently had more internet hits than the Kabul attacks the same day. (ok, so rare beats routine..) So now, in the midst of war and ruin, we are going to have birders wandering around, looking for what appears to be little more than a singing sparrow.
For the full report (and for the benefit of my goofy-ass wonderful mother who likes birds but isn't a nut case about it) here is the link: http://news.discovery.com/animals/rare-bird-breeding-ground-discovered-in-afghanistan.html
