Happy Thanksgiving

We celebrated Thanksgiving Afghan style today. Some rice, some lamb, and little chicken, and a bunch of other stuff. It was yummy.

As I think about it, Afghanistan needs to institute Thanksgiving. I mean, think about it—the first settlers have little, but celebrate their harvest, and their future. Over 200 years later, in the middle of all the death and destruction of the Civil War, Lincoln designates Thanksgiving a forma national holiday to give thanks. And since then, through good times and bad, we just pause a moment to give thanks.

If Lincoln can make Thanksgiving a national holiday in the midst of a Civil War, I guess Afghans can find more than a little to give thanks for as well. And for a little over an hour today, we did.
Next year we'll have a parade!!!

(Certain readers of this will note that their are no damn mashed sweet potatoes or cranberry slices on an Afghan Thanksgiving. All the news from here ain't bad!!)
