Normal

Herat is about as ‘normal’ a place as you can find in this part of the world. They actually have electricity 24 hours a day (Kabul is down to 5 hours every 3rd night), there is regular running water, there are traffic signals that WORK (Kabul, with a mere 4 million people, still doesn’t have a single traffic signal), and all in all, it looks regular.

I got to spend 24 hours in Herat and look around. Because it is also safe, I could actually take my time, look around a bit, and interact with the local folks. For me, being in a normal city seemed, uh…..normal.
