Saboor's Engagement Party

7:45 Saboor got engaged and the office was invited. He handed out invitations yesterday at work.
There are about 300 people here. Just like a wedding reception only with no liquor. And the women are on the other side of the divided that cuts the banquet hall in 2. The band is in the middle.

8:50 The first dancers have taken the floor. It is the opposite of the US-we are sitting on a tile floor and the dancers are on a carpet--yes, I think they are 'cutting the rug'. Meanwhile, from the sounds of yelling it seems the women are having more fun on their side of the divide.

9:00 The dancing here is like Topol in 'Fiddler on the Roof'. That same kind of arm twirling and spinning--and joy. La Chiem!!!

9:05. The MC just welcomed everyone, especially 'our foreign guests'. That was nice!!

9:10 Food service has begun. First round is Lay's chips and mango juice. I love mangos.

9:15 Food up!!!

9:40 That was tasty! Afghan food is really very good. Some lamb, rice, mantu--a meat dumpling that is osum. Dessert is a great custard pudding and some fruit.

The bride to be's dad came by to make sure we were ok. He is Colonel in the military I think and looks perfect for the job. 5'6" and built like a rock. Real handsome guy. He was very kind and went out of his way to welcome us.

I am told Saboor's dad is 80 or so. As one of the punk kids I work with said 'about your age Mr. Jon.'. Ok, so it was kind of funny.

9:50 That's all folks. We never got to see Saboor but it was a nice night all in all.
Jon
