Kabul Bird Market

One of the neat things about Kabul is that they have little markets around town. There is a kite market, a Bush market (excess food from the military) and my favorite—a bird market.

Walking through the market is delightful, as the pictures below will show.

Oh you were just thinking cute little birdies, weren't you? You can grab a big honkin turkey at the bird market.

It seems like the unemployment rate in Afghanistan must be below 0, because everyone is working--no one is making any money, but everyone is working damn hard to survive, including kids.

Haggling in Afghanistan is like breathing, but more important, as a good deal is a sense of honor. Note to readers: Do not negotiate with Afghan guys. You will not win, and only the arrogant/ignorant think they will.

Where there are birds, there are bird cages. These hand made cages are really a piece of art.
